Validated programs are used to copy laboratory data from the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Laboratory Medicine computer to the database daily. Records which are rejected from entry to the data base are sent to a log, which is inspected and resolved.
Paper copies of outside lab data are posted in the medical record. Computer programs compare patient hospital numbers and dates of birth and death against the institutional tumor registry system. All mismatches are inspected by the Medical Informatics department and data are corrected as necessary by CORe staff.
